He Pia He Tauira: Regenerating a Rangatahi Leadership Programme.
CLIENT | Auckland Urban Development Office and Mana Whenua
OUR ROLE | Strategic Planning, Funding & Programme Development
He Pia He Tauira is a Mana Whenua-led rangatahi placemaking programme that creates opportunities for future leaders to build confidence, develop leadership capability, strengthen connections to place, and contribute to the shaping of Tāmaki Makaurau.
Established through a partnership between Mana Whenua and Auckland Urban Development Office, the programme provides a platform for Rangatahi to co-design, plan and deliver placemaking initiatives grounded in whakapapa, mātauranga Māori and stories of place.
Following the loss of the programme lead in 2023, the programme was placed on hold while Mana Whenua and Auckland Urban Development Office reflected on its future and identified opportunities to strengthen its foundations. Working alongside Mana Whenua, Auckland Urban Development Office and Auckland Council Māori Outcomes, Done supported the regeneration of the programme through the development of a strategic assessment, business case and detailed programme framework designed to support its long-term success.
Our role included securing funding for the next phase of the programme, establishing governance and delivery structures, clarifying roles and responsibilities, developing procurement pathways, supporting monitoring and evaluation approaches, and creating the systems, processes and programme documentation required to support sustainable delivery.
The work resulted in funding being secured to support a dedicated Programme Coordinator role and ongoing programme delivery over a three-year period. More importantly, it created the foundations needed for He Pia He Tauira to continue developing future Mana Whenua leaders while strengthening the role of rangatahi in shaping the places, stories and communities of Tāmaki Makaurau.
