Climate Ready Communities is a new initiative that supports communities throughout Tāmaki-Makaurau to explore what a changing climate might mean for the people and places they care about, while building the capability, connections and confidence needed to take meaningful local action.

Done is leading the co-design and delivery of the programme in partnership with Auckland Council and climate adaptation specialists at Beca. Working alongside a diverse network of community organisations, we are developing a practical Get Started Guide, training resources, mentoring approaches and community tools that can be adapted and used across Tāmaki Makaurau. The programme follows a flexible approach, recognising that every community starts from a different place and will move at its own pace.

At the heart of Climate Ready Communities is a belief that the knowledge, relationships and leadership needed for climate resilience already exist within communities. Rather than creating new work streams, the programme seeks to build on existing strengths, helping community organisations connect climate readiness with the aspirations, initiatives and priorities they are already pursuing. Through peer learning, mentoring, community-led adaptation projects and a growing community of practice, Climate Ready Communities is helping create the conditions for communities to shape their own climate-ready futures.
